Marx writes: “

As for the individual bureaucrat, the purpose of the state becomes his private purpose, a hunt for promotion, careerism.”

----- “Critique of Hegel’s Doctrine of State,” in Karl Marx: Early Writings, trans. Rodney Livingstone and Gregor Benton (New York: Vintage, 1975), 111.

“Fascism recognises the real needs which gave rise to socialism and trade-unionism, giving them due weight in the guild or corporative system in which diverent interests are coordinated and harmonised in the unity of the State.”

Benito Mussolini, 1935, The Doctrine of Fascism, Firenze:Vallecchi Editore. (p.15)

Is this our alternatives? No. Careerism, lack of morality, lack of intellectual courage, arrogance, lack of empathy, order following, etc. show a lack of moral courage born out of an immoral system called capitalism.

Who can expect more than ineptness out of an economic system that puts profits before people?

If there is not a global socialist movement built I am afraid Mussolini will be right.

But the real issue is capitalism itself.
