This weekend Stanislav Byshok, a Russian political scientist living in Moscow, is back on the Barricades for a two-part release with hosts Maria Cernat and Boyan Stanislavski. He earned a PhD after graduating from Moscow State University, and he is frequently described as a scholar deconstructing nationalism and populism in international researcher databases. He's written a number of books and reports on current Russian, Ukrainian, and European politics.
In this first part, we took the chance to hear an inside-Russian perspective on what is often stripped of nuance and misportrayed by the press: the mood and attitude toward the war within Russia. For those against the war, what is the main line of argument? What alternatives were there to having the conflict degrade into the current state? What mistakes and miscalculations have the Moscow regime made in deciding to go to war and while waging it? This and more in this first part of the discussion.
